Landform provided services for two Chipotle restaurants:
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Gurnee, Illinois
Landform worked closely with the project team to meet the goals of gaining the restaurant LEED® Platinum status with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). This is the first restaurant to certify at this level as well as the first Platinum rating for a LEED® for Retail project. Landform’s role was civil engineer and landscape architect on this project.
Specific Sustainable Sites LEED® qualifiers on which Landform had substantial impact included locating the site within proximity of one or more bus stops, maximizing open space, reducing the heat island effect by increasing planted trees and creating an erosion and sediment control plan. Landform also had significant impact in the Water Efficiency LEED® qualifiers that include specifying native and adaptive plants for the site and designing a cistern to collect rainwater from the roof that would be used to irrigate the landscape.
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Landform's challenge was to redevelop a 1970s family-style restaurant site for the client while fullfilling current codes and planning regulations. With the site location in a vital commercial corridor that borders a residential area, we worked closely with the local neighborhood to meet their urban design goals. Redevelopment included maximizing open space with a ten-fold increase in turf, plantings and decorative buffer areas. Thoughtfully designed landscaping creates a dining area that remains engaged to the sidewalk and street, yet allows relief from busy urban traffic. New green space softens the landscape and promotes rainwater infiltration.
