The site design goal for the new Heart & Vascular Center was to provide a healing environment for patients and a sense of place for employees, patients, families and the community. Emphasis on community involvement during the design process was demonstrated in several workshops and meetings between the design team and residents. Innovative stormwater treatment system utilizes five rain gardens and hydrodynamic separation to remove pollutants before discharging into adjoining wetlands and Minnehaha Creek.
This project won a watershed grant to provide signage educating the community on the importance of reducing non-point source pollution. This project also won a Community Service Award from Construction Communications and a “Watershed Heroes” award from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District in 2008.
